Selbey Anderson Completes Unity Acquisition

Dom Hawes | March 9, 2022

Selbey Anderson, the UK’s fast-growing independent marketing group, has completed its acquisition of Unity, the multi award-winning communications agency. Founded by Gerry Hopkinson in 2005, Unity has consistently delivered award-winning work for a range of blue-chip clients with a focus on progressive brand communication and engagement.

Hopkinson (right) becomes Unity’s Chair and moves into a strategic role for the Selbey Anderson group as Chief Executive Officer of Selbey Labs. More detail will be announced about the labs in due course.

The Unity acquisition has worked well

Dom Hawes, Group CEO at Selbey Anderson said: “We announced our majority stake acquisition in Unity in October 2020. We then announced Unity’s merger with Flagship Consulting in August 2021. The merger has worked really well, so now we’re ready to execute on the succession plan we agreed last year.

“Like everyone else, we had no idea that the Covid effect would linger for so long. But, despite tough trading conditions, Unity and Flagship came together seamlessly to create a genuinely new proposition. There are exciting times ahead, but we’ll leave the new executive leaders of that agency to tell their own story.

“When we first announced our coming together with Unity, I said we’d have an exciting future together. I was right, but we’ve only just begun.”

Selbey Anderson commenced trading in 2019 and now numbers eight independent creative agencies with a headcount of 175 and revenues of £16m.

We’ve gained impetus, investment and support

gerry of unityGerry Hopkinson said: “Joining Selbey Anderson was a huge turning point for Unity, giving it the impetus, investment and support to realise its potential.

“Over the past two years, we’ve built an incredible team, client base and leadership structure and I’m delighted to be handing over the day-to-day operation of the business to Sam and Sophy who are a phenomenal duo.

“As Chair of Unity, I will continue to support the business and know it will go from strength to strength.”
